Fall marks the start of our mountain goat season, with hunts beginning September 1st. Our location on the rugged North Coast of British Columbia—near Terrace and Kitimat—is world-renowned for producing some of the largest mountain goats anywhere. If you’re only ever going to hunt one goat, this is where you want to do it.

What makes our area truly unique is the late-season opportunity. We can pursue goats right into February, when their coats are at their most spectacular. By then, the hair is eight to ten inches long, flowing down their legs like white shafts. Seeing a billy high on the mountain, the wind stirring through that coat, is nothing short of mystical.

Getting there is part of the adventure. When the floatplane drops you off at a remote lake and flies away, silence sets in. That’s when it hits most hunters—they’re standing alone in wild British Columbia, and this is home for the next 10 days. The beauty surrounding you is breathtaking: coastal peaks, inlets, glaciers, and pure solitude. Out here, there’s no one else.

Goats live in some of the harshest, steepest terrain on earth, and joining them for a week is a test of both body and mind. The climbs can be grueling—what I often tell clients is, “It’s three hours of hell before you get to heaven.” But once you’ve made it, standing on a coastal summit with the ocean stretching below and snowfields all around, you feel like you’re on top of the world. Many hunters return home with not just a trophy but a new sense of confidence in themselves.

Preparation is key. We want every client to have a fantastic experience, and part of that is being ready for the moment of truth. Spend time at the range before your trip, know your rifle, and be confident in your shooting. We’ll check every rifle at camp to make sure it’s accurate. If you choose to use one of ours, rest assured they’re tack-drivers—meticulously maintained so you can trust your shot when the opportunity comes.

This area is wild, raw, and untouched—a true wilderness experience that few people ever get to see. Wildlife encounters are part of the magic. You might spot eagles perched outside your cabin, humpback whales breaching in the same bay you’re anchored in, or curious seals following the boat. One evening, while hunters soaked in the natural hot springs near base camp, a grizzly wandered along the beach just 15 yards away, casually moving between them and the ocean. These are the kinds of moments that make this place unforgettable.

At the end of each day, hunters gather as boats return to camp. The fire is lit, stories are shared, a warm meal is served, and laughter carries into the night. Then it’s off to bed, ready to do it all again at first light.

One hunter who joined us pushed himself far beyond his comfort zone. He came to test his limits, pursue big game, and harvest organic meat. On a tough-weather hunt, after missing his first shot, he paused, took a deep breath, and settled in. At nearly 600 yards—the very edge of what I’d allow a client to shoot—he made a perfect shot. Calm, collected, and determined, he proved to himself what he was capable of. That’s the kind of transformation a hunt like this delivers.

Out here on the North Coast, the experience is bigger than the hunt itself. It’s about challenge, discovery, and connection—to the land, the wildlife, and yourself. And once you’ve stood on a coastal mountain with the wind in your face and the world at your feet, you’ll understand why we call this one of the most special places on earth.
